Artists Bio: Anni Stafford, a 7th generation Vermonter, finds inspiration in the local landscapes of her home in the NorthEast Kingdom. She tries to convey the rough beauty, mystery and enduring wildness of this remote part of the state. By learning to use a variety of techniques found in the challenging medium of watercolor, she has discovered unlimited possibilities for expressing her vision. Primarily working in watercolor, she also experiments in pastels and gouache, and crafts fine semi-precious stone jewelry in her studio in Morgan.

Artists Statement: While taking a drive or a walk in the woods, a scene will catch my eye. What is it that captures me? The play of light and shadow in the landscape, how it suddenly defines the outline of an object or makes a leaf transparent in the sun or sparkles on water like diamonds. The way the land unfolds gently under a sky full of roving, dark clouds. A certain intense combination of colors that I have to stop and drink in like nourishment. This is where and how the desire to paint or draw begins, this is the seed that requires attention and practice to grow. In my work, I try to illuminate some aspect of nature for the viewer to appreciate, perhaps to ponder, while you stop and take the time to look too.
